Recovering from Stroke

A stroke can be a severe condition that leaves a long-lasting impact on the body. It's the leading cause of long-term disability. When a stroke occurs, damage to the brain happens due to a lack of blood to the brain. Patients not only have a lasting effect on their physical health, but long-term health care can also become a financial burden. Treatment can result in medication and further treatment depending on the severity of the lasting impact.

We may not think about a stroke's impact until we've already experienced one. However, researchers believe there may be a way to help improve our brain's ability to bounce back from a stroke. A study was conducted in which blood biomarkers were analyzed to measure neural protection and neural plasticity. Blood samples were analyzed at baseline, four weeks of care, and eight weeks of care in 63 adults diagnosed with chronic stroke.

What researchers found was that where chiropractic care was implemented, changes to the biomarkers were found. This finding indicates that while further research may be needed, chiropractic care does, in fact, play a role in our brain's ability to heal!
