Increased Low Back Pain in Athletes

Low back pain can range in severity and recurrence; however, living with any pain level can be detrimental to our overall well-being. It can lead us to take more medications as we seek ways to reduce the pain, and living with pain can be hard on our mental health and social lives as we avoid situations in fear of pain.
While anyone can suffer from pain for various reasons, athletes can be at a higher risk for pain as sports can be very demanding on the body. A case review was conducted on sports and low back pain in athletes to get a better idea of where the pain comes from and what can be done to help. Athlete cases ranged in experience level from amateur level to professional. In 67.5% of cases, there was an increased risk of non-specific low back pain. Athletes must find ways to live with the pain or find coping methods.
Pain doesn't appear in the body for no reason. The body is trying to tell us something is wrong! If we push through the pain and ignore it, we can become even more injured than we were to begin with. With low back pain having a prevalence of 38.9% globally, many suffering people are looking for options that don't mean relying on medications or extreme measures. If we can optimize our overall health, we can optimize how the body recovers from heavy physical movement. With the help of chiropractic care, we can restore optimal function to the body, allowing the body its best chance for healing and recovery.
